AAPI Equity Alliance community leader joins the new 13-member Governance Reform Task Force that will promote better transparency, accountability, and public engagement in county government.

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 29, 2025) – Nancy Yap, executive director of Center for Asian Americans United for Self Empowerment (CAUSE), was confirmed by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to serve as an at-large member for the newly formed Governance Reform Task Force (Task Force). CAUSE is a member organization of AAPI Equity Alliance and has been a formidable force creating a leadership pipeline for civic leaders in Los Angeles county.

“As our county plans for significant reforms, it is imperative that the Governance Reform Task Force reflects the diversity of our county to achieve greater equity for all,” said Manjusha Kulkarni, executive director of AAPI Equity Alliance. “The inclusion of Nancy Yap is a significant stride for the 1.6 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles County and a positive step towards more equitable representation and inclusion of historically underrepresented Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities at the county level.”

The Task Force will oversee the implementation of the Charter amendment outlined in Measure G, a voter-approved ballot initiative in November 2024. The Task Force members represent community leaders across labor, business, community-based nonprofit organizations and public sectors of Los Angeles County and unincorporated areas.

“Measure G and the Governance Reform Task Force has opened the door for greater AAPI representation in LA County governance and strengthens our communities’ civic power,” Kulkarni said.
