AAPI Equity Alliance advocates at the state and local levels for laws, policies, and budgets that advance the well-being of AAPIs across Los Angeles County. We also build power and capacity in our communities, and across all communities of color, through civic engagement and coalition building. We do our work in collaboration with our member organizations, community members and leaders, coalition partners, and government allies.
Recent efforts include:
- Leading the AAPI Census Collaborative with nineteen AAPI partner organizations to raise awareness about the 2020 Census and response rates in hard-to-reach AAPI communities
- Working with AAPI community members to successfully advocate for the Everyone Counts Resolution, which directs the Los Angeles Unified School District to collect and report on the disaggregated racial and ethnic data necessary to understand student needs and allocate district resources
- Engaging AAPIs and advocating for equitable representation for communities of color in redistricting—a once-in-a-decade process to redraw the lines of political districts—as a member of the People’s Bloc and the AAPI & AMEMSA Redistricting Collaborative
