Not-so-fun Fact #1: For more than a century, the Board of Supervisors, made up of only 5 individuals, have made all the decisions related to LA County resources and services for over 10 million Angelenos.
That’s more than two million people – a population larger than some states – served by a single supervisor. It’s too much power in the hands of too few electeds over too many people.
There are 1.6 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) in LA County. However, because of the enormous size of each district, an AAPI has never been elected to the Board.
Not-so-fun Fact #2: The five supervisors have the sole power to appoint the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), who oversees the daily operations and administration of the county government.
Most voters across the country get to elect both the executive branch (CEO) and the legislative branch (Board of Supervisors) of their county — but Angelenos do not.
This election, we have the opportunity to change the status quo by voting YES on Measure G!
What would Measure G do? It would expand the Board of Supervisors from five to nine members, make the CEO an elected position, and create a county ethics commission along with additional reforms to keep LA County government accountable.
This means…
1) Better representation:
2) Better accountability:
An elected CEO would be more accountable to LA County residents.
3) Better transparency:
Other reforms include forming an independent ethics commission, which will ensure greater transparency.
We deserve the chance to have an AAPI leader at the table, where decisions impacting our communities are being made. And Measure G would make that a possibility.
Let’s improve our chances for AAPI representation at the highest level of county government, and vote YES on Measure G.
