A leaked government document reveals our worst nightmare – ICE is coming to Los Angeles, and they’re planning for a “large scale” immigration enforcement action. Here is what you need to know:
You have rights — regardless of immigration status
You have rights — regardless of immigration status
- You do not have to open the door unless ICE shows you a warrant signed by a judge (this is not the same as an ICE warrant).
- You have the right to remain silent — you do not have to answer any questions from ICE.
- You do not have to sign anything ICE asks you to sign.
Take steps now to prepare
- Create a safety plan — know what to do if you or a loved one is detained, prepare your documents including medical records and immigration papers, and contact a lawyer.
- Carry printable “Red Cards” to have ready for your reference or to provide to ICE, as necessary. Available in various languages.
