Two years ago today, Angelenos were betrayed by their city leaders. The Los Angeles City Hall Leaked Tape Scandal only reaffirmed our communities’ need for diverse, inclusive and equitable city government. This election, we have the opportunity to make that a reality.
As part of Angelenos for Fair Maps — Yes on Measures DD & LL! campaign, AAPI Equity Alliance is joining forces with Black and Latinx community organizations to make the case for independent redistricting!

What is redistricting? It’s the once-in-a-decade public process that determines the shape of our political districts and influences who gets elected to represent us.
Why is it necessary? In 2021, the LA City Council rejected the map drawn by the commission it appointed and drew its own map. The next year, a leaked recording involving three Councilmembers exposed the racism and gamesmanship motivating this decision. The Council’s map is the map we live with today.
To prevent future gerrymandering and corruption, these two measures will establish independent redistricting commissions for the City of Los Angeles (Measure DD) and LAUSD (Measure LL) to ensure fair maps and fair representation.
This means that everyday Angelenos — including Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) — could serve on the commission that leads redistricting. Join us in putting decision-making power back in the hands of our communities and vote YES on Measures DD & LL!
