How has authoritarianism affected you personally?
When I reflected on this check in question, I thought about the calculated flood of mis/disinformation and AI. “If this inundates me, how will it affect my immigrant parents?”
Numerous false claims have been made to erode trust in democracy, restrict our voices and voting rights, and consolidate power ahead of the midterm elections. I felt overwhelmed, until I looked up.
I was in a beautiful space full of organizers and community leaders from across LA County coming together during a time when we’re systematically made to feel powerless. United, we are rooted in one common goal: building people power.
These next few months will be critical in turning the tide, and LA is fortifying our defenses. Across every zip code, people are finding their voices and joining forces against the authoritarian regime.
In collaboration with Love Powers LA, a multi-racial coalition, AAPI Equity Alliance’s Civic Engagement Committee is organizing to do voter outreach and education, counteract mis/disinformation and redlining efforts, and protect our civic right to a fair and free election.
